1) What is your name? Please feel free to include any known nicknames held during your time at U of S or otherwise.

Dr. William P. Patterson (Wild Bill), when I was in High School I was known as "The Professor".

2) What year did you join the U of S, and what circumstances brought you there?

I arrived in the summer of 2002 after leaving my position as a professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Syracuse University in New York.

3) What were your favorite classes to teach?

Probably, Climate History or Geology field school.

4) If you could model your teaching style after one person, who would it be?

Steven Colbert

5) Did you ever win any Ore Gangue awards?

Best Professor (twice)

6) What is your favorite “PG rated” memory of the Ore Gangue (award, field trip, conference, lounge, party, etc)?

I can’t remember anything?!

7) If you could be a rock, what kind would you be and why?

Silty mudstone… mud with grit, who could hope for more?

8) What is the best excuse for a late assignment you have ever heard from an Ore Gangue student?

I had to go skiing, and couldn’t get a refund.

9) What type of beer did you drink during your good old days?

Blatz and Bush

10) What was the best Ore Gangue event ever?

Halloween 2002 or 2003… can’t remember

11) Which member of the boat race team are you, and do you believe you could take on the students in a race?

Somewhere in the middle, and I can race with the best of them.

12) Do you have any advice for the young geoscientists out there?

Study harder, as if your future depends on it!

13) If you had to do it all over again, would you?

Yes, but I would choose to be born wealthy!

14) Who would you love to see attend the 75th Reunion, and why?

Santa Clause, because he owes me big time!
